Floors and sore hocksLino, Wood, Tile and carpet are all too hard for your bunnies delicate hocks. Remember, they don't have padding like cats or dogs. Now you have chosen the size space you're designating for the bunny pad, You can figure out how many panels you will need to enclose that safe space. *Please note, If your bunnies free roam, there's not much you can do about the carpet except add some different textured rugs and blankets around the house to help.
First, choose the size space you can offer.
The minimum recommended space for rabbits is 3m x 2m x 1m(H).
Small - 3m x 2m x 1m(H)
Medium - 4m x 3m x 1m(H)
Large - 6m x 3m x 1m(H) or more.
How to prepare the flooring
Foam matsFoam mats are an easy, cheap and practical option. They create a bounce just like soil would, are super easy to clean and can be bought from many places like The Bunny Bach, Bunnings or The warehouse. You can now layer the space you've chosen with your foam mats. *Tip - Ensure you get enough foam mats so that your panels stand on them to prevent digging at the layer you top it with.
Textures to layer withWe recommend using lots of different kinds of textures so rabbits are encouraged to used different parts of their hocks to prevent sore hocks. Bath mats from kmart, knobbly mats from The Bunny Bach, rugs from spotlight are all great options. You can also have some soft blankets or towels. Super easy!
